Politiehond I "PH-1"

Politiehond I (Police Dog I) is the basic program in KNPV. Everybody who starts training a dog in KNPV will start PH-1. It is the most popular program in Holland, and in 1993 695 dogs got their PH-1 Title and 224 dogs got a title in each of the other 4 KNPV programs.

The KNPV program is separated in three sections. In Dutch they are called: Afdeling 1, 2, 3. In English you can say Part 1, 2, & 3. Besides parts 1, 2, & 3 there are two parts of "general outlook", one for the dog and one for the handler. Last but not least there is the possibliity to do the "extra oefening" (Additional exercise).

Here is how the point breakdown looks:

     Part 1 65 points
     Part 2 20 points
     Part 3 330 points
General Outlook = Dog 10 points
General Outlook = Owner 10 points
                                 ----------
                                 435 points

Additional Exercise 25 points

In points, you can score a maximum of 435 points, plus the 25 points for additional exercise.

The minimum requirements for a PH-1 Title are:

The additional exercise can be done on the handler's request only after the handler has completed all his exercises he can ask the Head-Judge if it is possible to do this exercise. The Judge will have to look at the points this team scored earlier that day in order to see if they are eligible to do this additional exercise.

The points of the additional exercise are not added to the points already scored. So a doy can score 435 points plus the 35 points for the additional exercise.

You can score a "Met-lof" in your title when you have at least 392 points. Besides that, the KNPV decided some years ago that you must score at least a "4" for in Part 3 the exercises E, G, H, I, J, L for "way of stopping, and "way of defending". Also you must have at least a "3" for exercises F and K of Part 3, for "refusing of given commands" and "toughness" during the throwing of the rubber hoses at the dog.
