Fremont Peak Expedition
Memorial Day weekend was the real beginning of spring as
the SLV Repeater Club discovered camping on Fremont Peak.
Looking down upon oceans of fog fingering into the nooks
and crannies, early morning hikers to the peak traversed
multitudes of wildflowers. Birds filled the air with song as
they celebrated the rising sun.
<
Shared gourmet dishes and drinks excelled the fare of all but
the finest restaurants. The Piece De Resistance on Sunday
evening was broiled Salmon freshly caught by N6RZ, (well,
not in the park).
What is camping without a camp fire and fish and war
stories, also memories of Field Days and DX Expeditions?
Kicking back with good companions and digesting all that
good food in order to walk!
Crystal clear nights revealed stars and planets normally
obscured by urban lights and smog. At the observatory
telescopes were available for close up viewing - well closer
up. At least half a dozen amateurs (astronomers that is) were
up at the observatory hill with scopes of all sizes. Each
astronomer was happy to give us a tour of many kinds
of objects in the sky, from binaries, to clusters, to distant
galaxies. Then, to ruin our night vision, each treated us to the
spectacle of a brilliant Jupiter, with four of its moons easily
visible, and the bands on the planet easily countable.
Thanks to Pres David, N6RZ, and to Kerry, N6SFO ,for
organizing this wonderful event.

New section suggestion: Listening Frequencies
Do you have a favorite frequency? Share it with the group!
While anyone can look in a frequency listings book, (and we
should cover the basic frequencies for newcomers, and
oldtimers who have misplaced their lists), we could make this
section more interesting by focusing on the frequencies our
members enjoy listening to. VHF, UHF, and shortwave,
would all be appropriate. So submit your favorite frequency
along with a description of the frequency.
